Current status: Article 370 is inoperative in its former constitutional operation. The Constitution (Application to Jammu and Kashmir) Order, 2019 and the declaration made under Article 370(3) changed the legal position, and the Supreme Court of India upheld the core constitutional measures concerning Article 370 in its judgment of 11 December 2023.

Effect of the 2019 changes: The special constitutional arrangement formerly associated with Article 370 ceased to operate. The former text should therefore not be presented as though it were an ordinary operative provision conferring the earlier special status.
