The Delimitation Act, 2002 (Act No. 33 of 2002) provides for the readjustment of seats in the House of the People and State Legislative Assemblies, and the division of States and Union territories into territorial constituencies, based on census figures.

Note: Sections 10A and 10B were inserted by the Delimitation (Amendment) Act, 2008. The Act also references the readjustment exercise being based on the 2001 census (originally 1991, amended in 2004) for constituency delimitation, while seat allocation between States remains frozen at 1971 census figures.
