Section 1. Short title, extent and commencement
(1) This Act may be called the Employee’s Compensation Act, 1923.
(2) It extends to the whole of India.
(3) It shall come into force on the first day of July, 1924.
Note: The Act was originally titled the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923, and was renamed by the Workmen’s Compensation (Amendment) Act, 2009, with effect from 18-1-2010, along with the substitution of “workman”/”workmen” with “employee”/”employees” throughout the Act.
