Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 — back to Table of Contents
Section 8. Power of the Central Government to amend the Schedule
The Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, add to or alter the Schedule, and any such addition or alteration shall have effect as if it has been made by this Act.
Note: This is the mechanism by which numerous names and emblems (e.g. Mahatma Gandhi, Interpol, Ashoka Chakra, the Bharat Scouts and Guides emblem) have been added to the Schedule over the decades since 1950 by Central Government notification, without needing further Parliamentary amendment.
