Section 1. Short title, extent and commencement
This Act may be called the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and it extends to the whole of India.
It comes into force on such date as the Central Government notifies in the Official Gazette, and different provisions may be brought into force on different dates, with any reference to the Act’s commencement construed as a reference to the coming into force of that particular provision.
