Section 10. Functions of the Chief Executive Officer
The Chief Executive Officer is the legal representative of the Food Authority, responsible for its day-to-day administration, drawing up work-programme proposals in consultation with the Central Advisory Committee, implementing programmes and decisions, ensuring appropriate support for the Scientific Committee and Panels, ensuring the Authority meets users’ needs, preparing revenue/expenditure statements and executing the budget, and maintaining regular dialogue with the Central Government.
Each year the Chief Executive Officer submits a general report, work programmes, annual accounts and the coming year’s budget to the Food Authority for approval, and forwards the approved report and programmes to the Central and State Governments for publication.
The Chief Executive Officer approves all financial expenditure, reports on the Authority’s activities to the Central Government, exercises the powers of the Commissioner of Food Safety in food-safety matters, and has administrative control over the Authority’s officers and employees.
