Section 17 – Food Safety and Standards Act: Proceedings of Food Authority

The Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 — back to Table of Contents

Section 17. Proceedings of Food Authority

The Food Authority meets at its head office or other offices as the Chairperson directs, following procedural rules (including quorum) specified by regulations. If the Chairperson cannot attend, a nominated or elected Member presides. Questions are decided by majority vote, with the presiding person holding a casting vote in case of a tie.

All orders and decisions are authenticated by the Chief Executive Officer, who attends meetings without a vote; the Chairperson of the Scientific Committee may be invited similarly. No act or proceeding is invalidated merely because of a vacancy or defect in the Authority’s constitution.
