Section 23 – Food Safety and Standards Act: Packaging and Labelling of Foods

The Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 — back to Table of Contents

Section 23. Packaging and labelling of foods

No person may manufacture, distribute, sell, expose for sale, or despatch packaged food that is not marked and labelled as specified by regulations, and labels must not contain any false or misleading statement, claim, design or device concerning the product, its quantity or nutritive value, or implying medicinal claims or a false place of origin.

Every food business operator must ensure that labelling and presentation — including shape, appearance, packaging, arrangement and display setting, and any related information — does not mislead consumers.
