Section 30. Commissioner of Food Safety of the State
Each State Government appoints a Commissioner of Food Safety for efficient implementation of food safety and standards. The Commissioner may prohibit, for up to one year, the manufacture, storage, distribution or sale of food in the public interest; survey industrial units for standards compliance; conduct training programmes; ensure uniform, objective, accountable and transparent implementation; sanction prosecution for imprisonable offences; and perform other functions prescribed by the State Government in consultation with the Food Authority.
The Commissioner may delegate powers and functions to a subordinate officer by order, except the power to appoint a Designated Officer, Food Safety Officer or Food Analyst.
