Section 57. Penalty for possessing adulterant

A person who imports or manufactures for sale, or stores, sells or distributes any adulterant, whether directly or through another person on his behalf, is liable to a penalty not exceeding two lakh rupees where the adulterant is not injurious to health, and not exceeding ten lakh rupees where it is injurious to health. It is not a defence in such proceedings that the accused was holding the adulterant on behalf of another person.
