The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 — back to Table of Contents
Section 17. Application for registration as authorised user
A person who claims to be a producer of goods bearing a registered geographical indication may apply to the Registrar, in the prescribed manner, to be registered as an authorised user of that indication. The application must be accompanied by a statement and supporting documents establishing that the applicant is indeed a producer of those goods, along with the prescribed fee.
The same procedural framework that applies to applications for registration of the geographical indication itself — filing and examination, acceptance or refusal, withdrawal of acceptance, advertisement, opposition, corrections, and registration — applies equally to authorised-user applications.
