Section 29. Alteration of registered geographical indications
A registered proprietor may apply to the Registrar for leave to add to or alter a registered geographical indication, provided the change does not substantially affect its identity. The Registrar may refuse leave or grant it subject to terms and limitations.
Where the Registrar considers it expedient, the application may be advertised, allowing third parties to oppose within the prescribed time; any opposition is decided by the Registrar after a hearing if requested. Once leave is granted, the altered geographical indication is itself advertised — unless it was already advertised at the application stage.
