Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956 — back to Table of Contents
Section 1. Short title and extent
(1) This Act may be called the Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956.
(2) It extends to the whole of India and applies also to Hindus domiciled in the territories to which this Act extends who are outside the said territories.
Note: The words “except the State of Jammu and Kashmir” were omitted from sub-section (2) by the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, with effect from 31 October 2019. The Act now applies to the whole of India without exception.
