Section 55. Rights of certain existing legal practitioners not affected
Notwithstanding this Act, every pleader or vakil practising before Chapter IV’s commencement (“the said date”) under the Legal Practitioners Act, 1879, the Bombay Pleaders Act, 1920, or other law, who does not elect to be (or is not qualified to be) enrolled as an advocate under this Act — and likewise every mukhtar and revenue agent similarly practising — continues to enjoy the same rights of practice in any court, revenue office, or before any authority, and remains subject to the same disciplinary jurisdiction, as before the said date, notwithstanding the repeal of the relevant provisions of those earlier laws.
Note: Clause (b) (relating to attorneys) was omitted by Act 107 of 1976, with effect from 1 January 1977; clause (c)-(d) substituted by the Advocates (Amendment) Act, 1964.
