Section 58AA. Special provisions in relation to the Union territory of Pondicherry
(1) Persons entitled to practise law in Pondicherry immediately before Chapter III’s commencement there (or who would have been so entitled had they not been in public service) are deemed persons entered on a High Court roll under the 1926 Act for section 17(1)(a) purposes, and may be admitted on the State roll for Pondicherry within the time specified by the Bar Council of Madras.
(2) A person practising law in Pondicherry immediately before Chapter IV’s commencement there, who does not elect to be (or is not qualified to be) enrolled under sub-section (1), continues to enjoy the same rights of practice and remains subject to the same disciplinary jurisdiction as before, notwithstanding the repeal by the Pondicherry (Extension of Laws) Act, 1968.
